The Life Beautiful
Live
the life beautiful ? do you say
Moving along in a humdrum way
Over the same paths every day ? |
|
|
Live
the life beautiful ? yes like a star
Sending its beams to a sailor afar,
Scatter some radiance wherever you are |
Live
the life beautiful ? yes like a child
Happy because the dear father has smiled
Duty and Joy in His love reconciled. |
|
|
Live
the life beautiful ? yes at His feet
All lovely graces, all blessings shall meet
Every day's service a symphony sweet. |

The eighth of March 1915 would
have been Alice's (probably 35th) birthday.
She chose to open her collection with these hopeful words (as they are
uncredited,
I am unaware whether she was the author or if this is a transcript of a
well-known hymn),
her tone, at the close, of the tome, is converse.
