The life of a man is an arrow's flight...

Transcription :

July 31st 1915

The life of a man is an arrows flight,
Out of Darkness in to light,
Then in to Darkness again.
Perhaps to Pleasure, perhaps to Pain.
There must be Something, above or below.
Somewhere unseen a Mighty Bow,
A tireless Hand, and a sleepless Eye.
Watching the arrows fly and fly,
Someone who knows why we live, and die.
